~With what was left of the evening quickly winding to its end, and with morning looming ever closer, Sam had finally decided to call it a night and make her way back to the Sea Dell Motel. Just a touch south west of the airport and nestled up against the shore, it wasn't the fanciest place in Marathon, but she'd felt a lot more comfortable there as opposed to larger tourists resorts...and while it was in the seedier part of town, she'd never really had any problems...until now. It wasn't until Sam was standing dead smack in front of her door that she realized there was a problem. A cold nauseating feeling raced from head to toe, while it had appeared closed from a distance, up close the damage was evident. Kicked in to the point where the area around the lock had splintered. Hand immediately went to her front pocket and in one fluid motion the clipped blade was pulled free while thumb pressed against the spring assist to get the thing to snap open to its full length, the handle was then twisted so the blade portion extended south of her palm and along her wrist before free hand tentatively moved towards the broken door and gave it a little nudge, just far enough that she could peer in...pitch black, though a part of her knew that who'd ever done this was long gone and not lurking in the shadows. Once just past the frame, the same free hand raced back to find the switch and flick on the light, and if it hadn't been before, the heart that had near been lodged in her throat, sunk to the pit of her stomach. That singular light source of the lamp whose base had shattered on the floor was enough to paint a picture worth a thousand words. Clothes that had for once finally been folded neatly away in a drawer were scattered about the room, near ever piece of furniture was in some state of being broken, even the bed itself had been upturned and ripped to shreds. Hesitant steps took her further into the room, rounding the far side of where the mattress had been toppled only to have what was left in the color run from her cheeks...there in the corner, possibly the worst thing she could have come across, not some dead body...but the pried open vent against the baseboard...the vent where she's stashed her little nestegg after having settled in the city.~ "No no no...Fuck!" ~This couldn't really be happening right?! The knife was tossed against the box spring and svelte frame dropped to her knees in front of the vent to frantically reach around inside...not one single bill left. The sudden realization that Sam Just had Seven thousand dollars stolen from her left her numb and on the verge of tears. What the fuck was she going to do now, it wasn't like she could call the cops, they'd only want to question her about the cash!~(D)
